Re: what gacha headcanon has you like this?

> Kinda vague but most "pushed pairings" regardless of the specific game. It feels like so often at least one of the characters in the pair gets the short end of the stick and is only mentioned in relation to the other and gets no development of their own. Bonus points if it causes a chain reaction of retcons that extends even to other characters

THIS. AGREED!!! My friend and I like to call them "gov (devs) mandated ships" lmao. I think this especially happens a lot to same-sex ships. At this point I feel some of these ships are so forced sometimes, it gives me a bitter taste.

> One of the characters in the pair gets the short end of the stick and is only mentioned in relation to the other

This happens both in canon and fanon (fandom). It especially sucks if you love that character on their own, and then you see the fandom treat them just as a companion to the other character, just a part of the ship. 😔😭💔

Re: #Holostars graduations

Some thoughts and feelings after ~7 hours:

(Note: This is not a proper send-off or last letter. I want to write something proper, a retrospective of my experience as a fan for 6+ years, later. I hope I can do it.)

To be honest, I'd be lying if I said I didn't see this coming at all. Ever since the downsizing announcement, it feels like I've been counting the days until my kamioshi, Temma-kun, graduates. I even said it to my friend last month, on his birthday.

(キャプション自動取得対象外)

And well, guess I was right. It's even more obvious last night when he was flip-flopping between streaming or not, and when he streamed, the description said, "Thank you for everything." Of course that raised suspicions for me.

So I've been bracing myself for it. But to think the announcement would come the very next day, and that 6 members in total will graduate...now THAT is shocking. This is the worst news I ever woke up to. I wish I didn't wake up to this. I wish I didn't wake up, I wish this is all a dream...but alas.

Despite all of that, however, despite expecting it to a degree, it still HURTS a lot, because Holostars - especially Temma-kun - means A LOT to me. Copy-pasting what I said before: I've been a fan for 6+ years now, before they even reached 1st year. I watched their 1st anniversary. I watched their 1st concert, 2nd concert, and other paid events. They're a big and important part of my life all of these 6+ years, when I entered and graduated from college. They've been with me through one of the hardest parts of my life. Their streams made me look forward to the future. They're even a part of my thesis! I took a photo with Temmanui on my graduation ceremony! So to say this news is devastating is a MASSIVE understatement. It feels like a large part of me has been gouged out.

(I think I'll share photos of all my merch, some of my assignments with Holostars in it if I can recover them, my thesis, and some of my graduation photos with Temmanui as a send-off. I don't care anymore. I want to show how much they REALLY mean to me.)

---

Sometimes I think how lucky yet unlucky we Starmins are. There are some graduations and terminations without a proper send-off, sure, but despite all the hurdles they've went through (which is A LOT), all these members stayed for 6+ years. That is no small feat. Plenty of VTubers graduated in less. I think that speaks to how much they love Holostars, other members, and their fans. And I can't thank them enough for that.

In a somewhat related note. People outside VTuber spaces may look down on fans who feel sad over VTuber graduations because, "The real person is still there and they may reincarnate". Sure, they real person is the one who makes up most of the character we know and I love, and they can go on to take on other roles, but things are not the same. It's never going to be the same. What I came to love is Holostars with 12 members. What I came to love is Kishido Temma from Holostars. Without any of that, it feels different. The environment in which the talent surrounds themselves in, the group dynamics - that's all important, too.

So for Temma-kun to acknowledge that, I feel both glad and heartbroken. It feels so rare for it to be acknowledged, let alone by the talent himself. He's so real and I always appreciate that side of him. Miyabi also acknowledges it, to a degree, by thinking that Holostars without group activities isn't Holostars. And I agree.

It's painful, but the Holostars I came to know and I love is gone now. No more Unplan, no more Hanakishi, no more SunTempo (we like to joke about this, but now it's totally gone), no more Yurustars (already dead for a while lol), no more Holostars Board Game Club, no more MaFia, no more 3-members UPROAR, etc...so many things are lost. Hopes and dreams like JP + EN "We are the HOLOSTARS!!" is lost, too. 💔 What about Shinri's plan of Holostars RUST?? Is that still going? 😭💔

---

Hearing that Temma wanted to stay but changed his mind after Miyabi decided to graduate is...something. Lmao. Both funny and bittersweet. Hanakishi forever even until death! But if I may be so selfish, as a kishimen, I wished he'd have stayed, even for a bit longer. But alas....

WHAT COMES NEXT AND ABOUT PL

I said before that I prefer to keep PLs separate, away from this account. But I think I'll forgo that from now on. After all, Kishido Temma will die. I feel like there's no point in me "hiding" it anymore.

That said, to be honest, I'm still not sure about supporting their PLs - as I said, things are different. I'm also still not sure about supporting the rest of Holostars after this. I said before, "Ultimately, I'll keep supporting them until the very bitter end," and it feels like my kamioshi IS that bitter end. I love Holostars, but I'm more focused on my kamioshi, after all. I'll see how it goes first, I suppose. Who knows, perhaps I won't support them as closely as I did, but I'll still look at them from afar.

This account is a multi-fandom mess, anyway, I won't go anywhere.

---

I have nothing but gratitude to Holostars members for the past 6+ years, for all the laughter and sadness. Their existence brighten my days, my weeks, my months, my years. I can only hope their future path to be filled with joy, for them to shine even brighter. If graduating is what it takes for them to reach greater heights, for them to be happier, then so be it. It hurts a lot now, my tears can hardly stop, but this too shall pass. I hope the day when we all can look back fondly on these days will come.

I'd also like to thank fellow Starmins who have made the past 6+ years much more enjoyable. I met a lot of people and experienced many things. We've been through a lot together, from all the ups and downs. I saw old fans left and new fans came. But still, I think that, out of all the fandoms I've been so far, this is the best fandom experience I ever had. Thank you very much.

That is all for now.

---

Addendum: I haven't watched any of the streams yet. I'm not strong enough afshdkdld 😭 I'm so scared...I know for certain how much it'll break me. Just seeing tweets, comments, and clips is enough to make me cry. I need someone to watch it with me please agsjdkdkl 😭😭😭🫂

---

Addendum 2:

To be honest, my interest in Holostars and Temma-kun waned a few times. Sometimes I thought of leaving, even. But each time, they managed to pull me back. That's a sentiment I saw other long-time Starmins shared. I thought my interest waned again, and I had been bracing myself for the inevitable, especially as the situation got worse and worse...but still, I cried so much after the downsizing and graduation announcements. I guess I love them that much, huh...I'm a bit surprised, honestly. But I can't help it, they've been in my life for so long, after all.

Also, I know full well how fleeting VTubers are. Graduations are inevitable - it's a matter of when, not if. But for them to graduate like this, because the branch collapsed, with no grand fanfare, 6 members at once on top of that...it stings. It hurts so much. I wish they graduate under different circumstances...I just want them to be successful and happy, as they deserve, and yet...why is it so hard? Why is this what they receive for all the years of suffering and hard work?? It's not fair.

For kishimen, there were more hints letting me brace for the inevitable. Before, Temma-kun said he'd only start aging when he graduates. And he did finally age this year. While he said it calmly, as if he had no intentions to graduate, that is probably the most obvious sign for his eventual graduation. All these years, he wasn't lying at all...

The only bit of silver lining (if you can call it that), I suppose, is that after all the graduations and terminations without proper send-off, we finally get to see them off on their last streams...but 6 at once, and no last 3D lives except Rio who had to use external studio. Seriously, being a Starmin is cursed at this point. 😂😭 The company won't even grant them one last grace, one last chance, the last hurrah, to use internal studio. It's insane.

Sighs.Fold

#Holostars

I saw someone saying elsewhere that what had happened today, with the explosion in viewership numbers, won't change anything. That the decision is made, so it won't change anything.

This might be a "waffle and pancake" situation or me putting things in their mouth, but to me, their reply feels...dismissive? I'm not sure how to word it. I'm lacking dictionary today, sorry.

Like yeah, maybe it won't change anything in the end. But for them to be unhinged and gaining more viewers in this supposedly "last stretch", is that such a bad thing?? Is it bad and wrong of us fans to have fun with them and to clutch a glimmer of light (hope) in the darkness? Is it bad for us fans to be happy that more people notice them and find out how funny they are, even if it's "the last moments"? Are you saying that all of us - the boys and fans - should just bite our lips and back down without a fight, with dark and gloom?

I don't think so. It's good to be realistic, but being too pessimistic ain't it, either. They boys are doing this exactly because there's nothing to lose. If things come crashing down, at least they put up a fight and they'll go out with a bang, and us fans will have amazing memories. I say let us have the last hurrah. I'd rather things end with some positivity in it, in our own terms. The attention may help them "later on", too.

I hope that makes sense.

In conclusion:

It may be the end. So let’s make the most of what’s left. Let’s laugh, go feral, and support Holostars louder and harder. Even if it doesn’t change the outcome, it still means something. Or so I think and believe.Fold

Re: #Holostars situation

I'm not going to mince my words this time. This will be more negative than my previous message.

"Holostars fans don't actually watch/support them!" To people who say this...Pēdīcābō ego vōs et irrumābō.

It's a rhetoric I've seen MANY TIMES over the past 6+ years and frankly, I'm SO SICK of it. Is that all you can keep parroting and repeating like a broken radio? It's VERY disrespectful to the fans who have done so much. And if you're asking for proof, there's a lot, you're just blind to it because 1) you're not in the fandom, 2) you ignore it because it doesn't suit your agenda.

"You should've just supported them harder."

The things is, there's only so much us fans can do. We watch their streams. We clip their streams. We talk about them, livetweets or not (I've done a lot of livetweets and I've seen a lot of livetweets!). We make fanworks, writing and drawing alike. We buy their voice packs and merch - Holostars' AGF (Animate Girls Festival) merch is especially infamous for being a bloodbath, where the merch is SOLD OUT in mere seconds. We attend their paid events/concerts - I personally PAID for these (1st ACT, 2nd ACT, 3RISE, Movin' On!, Big Field Day), the first two concerts sold out all venue tickets within hours, the venue tickets for Movin' On! SOLD OUT IN MERE SECONDS with a lot of fans not getting any, and I know people who even flew to Japan to attend concerts. We make various fan projects, from drawings, web only, to offline gatherings - even expensive ones like billboard ads and train station ads (by the way, Holostars 5th anniversary train station ads by Indonesian fans reached its hefty donation goal in MERE HOURS).

Is that all nothing for you? What else do you want us to do?? What else are we supposed to do?? Becoming a promotor?? We can promote them, sure, but it's NOT our job, and again, there's only so much we can do - our reach is limited. Becoming a shareholder??? Don't make me laugh.

Are you saying all of that is not enough? What is "enough"? What can be considered "enough"? What is the metric? At this point. it feels like NOTHING is ever going to be enough. All the boys' efforts - with all their blood, sweat, and tears, and all the fans' efforts are NEVER going to be enough in your and management's eyes. The ceiling will only keep raising higher and higher with no break or end in sight, and we'll never be able to meet it.

After 6+ years of working hard, only to be told that all of our efforts are STILL not "good enough" is VERY devastating. And I'm so sick, tired, and frustrated of seeing the boys and fans get undermined again and again.

The funniest thing is, us fans can't even give the boys money even if we want to now, as there are no more merch, not even digital voice packs! It's insanity. (There's still superchat and memberships, but.) It is said support is cut off due to not making profits, but then, HOW THE HELL are the boys going to make money like this when they can't sell anything, not even digital voice packs?? WHAT THE HELL do you want, CVR??

Regardless, once again, I'll keep supporting Holostars until the very bitter end. I'll go down with the sinking ship.Fold

I've been a fan for 6+ years now, before they even reached 1st year. I watched their 1st anniversary. I watched their 1st concert, 2nd concert, and other paid events. They're a big and important part of my life all of these 6 years, when I entered and graduated from college. They're even a part of my thesis! I took a photo with Temmanui on my graduation ceremony! So to say this news is devastating is an understatement. This somehow feels worse than a talent's graduation. I feel sick to my stomach. My head hurts. My heart is broken. I cried.

At first, I wasn't sure if I can confidently say, "I'll keep supporting the boys until the end." But now, after processing the news for 7+ hours, I think I can say it. Ultimately, I'll keep supporting them until the very bitter end. To quote Twitter oomf, "I've been on this boat for long enough I've taken residency and I'm going down with it when it goes down." Like going down with the Titanic LMAO.

There are more things on my mind, more things to be said. But for now, that's all I can say.

By the way, Temma-kun talked a bit about the announcement on his stream. Ultimately, he doesn't resent the decision. Rather, he feels grateful for all the opportunities (like 3D concerts) he's been given. He also confirmed that, much to my heartbreak, there won't be merch for his birthday in 2 weeks. 😭💔 I was looking forward to it...I thought maybe he'll release a new nui too, but alas. I want everyone to get new nuis, damn it!! 🥲😭💔

Anyway, I need a vodka. (I don't drink)

> Artist Menfess: term bahasa indonesia “artis” yg malah lebih dikenal sebagai entertainment ini bikin rancu ya, padahal kata artis itu dri “art” yg mana seni, pernah kenalan, pas kenalan aku ngenalin as “artist”, jir dipikirnya artis sinetron ☺️

KBBI VI: artis = ahli seni; seniman, seniwati (seperti penyanyi, pemain film, pelukis, pemain drama)
Merriam-Webster: artist = a person who creates art (such as painting, sculpture, music, or writing) using conscious skill and creative imagination

Yes, "artis = actress/actor" is strong in Indonesian for some reason (interesting research topic). But the term isn't exclusive to visual artists (like illustrators), either. Visual art isn't the only art form that exists, acting is an art form, too.

Not gonna lie, this is why I've always been iffy about the common internet usage of "artist" to only refer to visual artists. This is why I liked "content creator" because it's more inclusive (until it isn't, and the pragmatic meaning shifted). But I digress.

1. I Offer You Nothing
2. Why Did I Stop/Pause Creating?
3. Speaking of Which, I Dislike the Term Content - A Semantic and Pragmatic Study (Short Version)

I OFFER YOU NOTHING

Summary of my blog post.

Seeing everyone else doing something made me feel strangely inadequate for my own inaction. In a digital world where seemingly everyone is creating "content" and the feed is constantly screaming for attention, I’ve been wondering where I fit in. I often feel like I offer "nothing" to my followers - no consistent substance, no funny bits, just a chaotic mix of retweets/shares and occasional life-updates. It’s an eternal tug-of-war between "this is my account and I can do what I want" and the guilt of not providing something "valuable" to the people who follow me.

The truth is, my creative process is mostly a solo act born out of necessity. As a tired and not rich bear, I’ve learned to be self-sufficient, creating for myself and my own ships or OCs because I don't have the energy or funds for much else. While I’ve moved away from using Twitter as an open diary (shoutout to my messy Obsidian journal for doing the heavy lifting now), I still feel that occasional sting when I post something publicly and get no engagement. It makes me question why I post at all, but I think I've realized that for me, platforms like AO3 or Tumblr are mostly just archives - I’m throwing my work into the wild and letting it exist there, regardless of who sees it.

Ultimately, my mind is just incredibly loud. Between coding frustrations, aviation facts, Virtual YouTubers, manga, manhwa, anime, games, etc, there’s too much going on to ever fully translate into a public post. I wrote this because my journal was getting too cluttered and I needed to find some coherence in the noise. I might not have a clear "point" or a grand conclusion, and I know I’m probably a bit of a weirdo for being this open, but letting these thoughts out helps me understand them. If I’m a multi-fandom chaos who offers nothing but my own niche interests once in a blue moon, if any, then so be it.

WHY DID I STOP/PAUSE CREATING?

If you ask me why I stopped/paused drawing and writing for so long...even now, I can't quite answer that with certainty. It's something I must mull over and untangle for a long time. But my conjecture is: depression and starting another hobby, namely coding. While I found joy in my coding - or to be more precise, indie web - endeavors, it's not something a lot of people notice and appreciate nowadays, unlike artworks and fanfics. Long gone is the days of "mainstream" Geocities, personal websites, and fan sites. A bit unfortunate, perhaps, but such is the fate of a niche hobby. At the very least, I know I'm not alone. Shoutout to my indie web neighbors!

SPEAKING OF WHICH, I DISLIKE THE TERM CONTENT
A Semantic and Pragmatic Study (Short Version)

In the past, I once mentioned that liked the term "content creator" because it felt inclusive, but my feelings have shifted over time. To explain why the word now feels icky, I have to look at it through two linguistic lenses: semantics and pragmatics.

In linguistics, semantics is the study of literal, dictionary meaning. According to Merriam-Webster, the noun "content" means: substance; gist; meaning; significance; something contained; the principal substance (such as written matter, images, music, etc.) offered by a website or on social media. Semantically, it’s a perfect umbrella term. It doesn’t care if you are an illustrator, a writer, a musician, or a coder; if you put something inside a medium, you are creating what is inside. This is why I liked it at first, as it gave standing to creators usually sidelined in the general internet term of "artist" but are still making things.

However, pragmatics is where the trouble starts. Pragmatics is the study of how context contributes to meaning - how a word is actually used in society. In the current landscape of the internet, the pragmatics of "content" have shifted over time, from creative expression to industrial commodity. The pragmatic use of the word now implies something disposable. It's a filler with no merit or artistry that keeps people scrolling, a quick and mindless consumption with no substance and depth.

In the context of today's internet, when the word "content" is used, it isn't just describing a medium; it's describing a unit of consumption. Semantically, a poem and a 5-second clip of a dancing cat are both "content," but pragmatically, the word strips away the human intent behind them. It turns a labor of love into a metric - something to be measured by engagement rates rather than by the connection it makes with another person. By calling it "content," creators - whether they are illustrators, writers, coders, or dreamers - become suppliers for the algorithm. Machines that exist solely to endlessly churn out products.

And I know for a fact that I am not alone in noticing this pragmatic use of the word and disliking it.

Because the world uses "content" pragmatically to mean constant output, I noticed that many hobbyists often fall into a trap. We start to view our own private joys - our OCs, our ships, and our loud thoughts - as unrealized products that haven't been "packaged" for a public feed. The internet asks, if it's not "content", does it even exist? This creates a pressure to constantly extract value from our hobbies, to churn things out just to be visible, turning a stress-free hobby into something that feels like work. But a hobby shouldn't be a job; it should be a sanctuary where we are allowed to create things that are messy, private, and - most importantly - commercially useless. Not everything has to be monetized.

Of course, I'm not saying that applies to everyone. It certainly does not apply to a professional who has to make ends meet. One may argue that the word "content" isn't always used with the "mindless consumption" context, and that is true - it's simply that the heavy association has soured it for me. And I understand that right now, there isn't exactly any direct equivalent to the term "content" that can replace it (not as far as I know, at least). I'm not telling you to stop using it either, you are free to keep using it. This is just my personal opinions and feelings.

To play Arknights Enfield or not?

I'm an OG Arknights player (since day 1) but to be honest, Endfield never really interest me ever since it first came out. There's something about the art and designs that don't vibe with me, and it got even worse as more and more characters got revealed. (I do love Eyja's design, at least. It's cute.)

Not to mention the severe lack of male characters. Yes, I know Arknights in the beginning doesn't have a lot of male characters either, and it's still far from perfect in regards to its treatment to male characters (I have some complaints). I'm not optimistic things will be the similar or even better here - I expect worse. Call me pessimistic, I'd love to be proven wrong.

Also, I'm not big into Hellagur, he isn't even my type, but I'm disappointed he got younger. Seeing him younger feels...so wrong. I know that isn't exactly the same Hellagur, but I can't unsee him.

And then I got hit by natural selection - my phone can't run the game lol (even though it somehow can play Infinity Nikki when it shouldn't, it's a miracle lol). It's like my disinterest is justified (?) lmao. Not like my phone has enough storage, anyway. I can play it on laptop/PC, but I kinda have a storage crisis (and then I remember I have an external SSD with far enough storage where I already tried to play another game so it works, but) and I'm not sure it can run the game well. I'm already forcing it to play Infinity Nikki and I'm afraid to break it even more lmao.

That said, I'd be lying if I said FOMO isn't getting to me right now, seeing so many people near me about to play it. 😂 Maybe I'll try it, after all...? No harm in trying, I suppose.

Re: r/HobbyDrama Hobby Scuffles - Does anyone else have examples of stories that tend to be dismissed because of their premise/genre, but you think are actually more nuanced than they seem?

The one that immediately came to my mind is "SSS-Class Revival Hunter", a novel and a manhwa. The general sentiment I've seen (and I also thought of) is that the title seems...boring, as if it's just your run-of-the-mill story about an overpowered character fighting his way up a tower as a hunter with game-like mechanics. Like it's not anything new, just one of these copies, dime a dozen. The first impression isn't great. I didn't read it for a long time because of that as well.

The first few chapters were pretty rough as well, as the protagonist can come off as cringy. And then it hit you with unexpected emotions, sincerity, and feelings. And again. And again. In the end, I was amazed to find out that at its core, this is a profound and poignant tale of humans, with all their bad and good, joys and woes, making me laugh and cry. It has so much heart in it, coupled with a good comedy and interesting world-building. It takes a while to get there, but I think it really pays off. It also plays around with multiple genres and multi-demographic appeal (there's even otome isekai/villainess arc!). The artwork is phenomenal as well. Hands down one of my favorite manhwa ever.

Re: r/HobbyDrama Hobby Scuffles - What's your example, if you have one? When you form an impression of a fandom that you know is either unfair, incomplete or incorrect but it seems to keep getting reinforced?

> One last thought is generally Shippers. I love shipping, I ship characters. I'm even participating in a ship Zine.
> But I completely understand why shippers are often disparaged because well... shippers often become incredible obsessive with the characters to the point they have no interest in the original story they are from and often place headcanons above whats actually happening in the stories and routinely get upset when they step into communities that don't support their view (Thats no longer based on the original story) and cause disruptions.
> Along with the obsession they tend to want to dominate fan spaces and that's why many subs just straight up ban ship posts because if you don't a couple of people will just spam posts about their ships.
> Countless times I've encountered "Fans" of a series but they really just like the character in abstract sort of way because the character they go on to talk about rarely have any characteristics of the character actually is portrayed so it ends up just being a walking talking example of the thomas jefferson meme.

I'm a shipper too, I even write and draw sometimes, most my fannish activity is in shipping, and I agree.

Another annoying thing is when a ship is so popular/shippers are so obsessed in their ships that a lot of people don't seem to see them as 2 separate, individual characters. For example, when there's only one character in a post/artwork, someone may mention the other character in the ship, even though the post/artwork isn't shippy at all. One fan artist I knew complained about it sometimes, and I saw various instances of it happening across different fandoms and ships.

Like, can't people just appreciate a character without involving another character in a ship sometimes? It's especially kinda depressing when your own blorbo seems to be viewed mostly as an accessory in a ship/a part of a ship rather than their own character by a lot of people. Like, god forbid they're their own character separate from another character. (Yes, I'm kinda venting here, excuse me.)
